Sample Resignation Letter

The following are three samples of resignation letters.

The first letter is a resignation letter that is short, simple and to the point. In most cases, I would recommend writing a letter like this.

The second letter is a little longer and goes into how the person is grateful to have worked for the company. The writer also extended an offer to help with his replacement.

The last one is a resignation from an association.

Simple Resignation Letter

Dear Mr John Smith,

As required by my contract of employment, I hereby give you 2 Months' notice of my intention to leave my position as Financial Analyst with ACME Finance Inc.

I have decided that it is time to move on and I have accepted a position elsewhere. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the experience I have gained and the support given. I wish you and the company well in all business ventures.

Yours sincerely,

Longer Resignation Letter

Dear Montgomery Burns,

I am writing to inform you that I am resigning my position as your personal assistant, effective at the end of business on Friday, May 13.

I have been offered and have accepted an exceptional opportunity as a member of senior management with another company, in another industry.

I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to work for Springfield Nuclear Power Plant for the past five years. I will always think of the organization as a first class company.

If I can be of any assistance in preparing for the hiring of my replacement or appointment of a temporary assistant, I would be glad to help.

Regards,
Waylon Smithers

Resignation Letter for an association

With regret, I am resigning from membership and all affiliation with the Supervillain Rights Association.

The organization’s recent endorsement of the Anti Money Laundering Act, is completely at odds with my personal beliefs about the need for villains to earn a living illegitimately. As my idol once said “And now, folks, it's time for "Who do you trust!" Hubba, hubba, hubba! Money, money, money! Who do you trust? Me? I'm giving away free money. And where is the Batman? HE'S AT HOME WASHING HIS TIGHTS!”.

I’m doing everything I can to add value to my net worth, and I’m not going to support an organization that does not recognize my need to profit at the cost of the general public.

As you can see in the sample letters above, all the elements of a good resignation letter are followed.
