credit question

I have been paying child support for eight years on my daughter but did not know that she existed until she was eight years old. She is from the state of California and California Laws state that I have to pay back pay for her child support. I recently went in to check my credit report and I wanted to know why is this reflecting negatively on my credit report when I am consistantly making the child support payments?
